About this issue:
Original press.   47 West 63rd New York 23 on center label.  Deep groove, RVG and etched “ear” in dead wax.  Flat edge.  Clean spindle hole.  47 West 63rd St, New York 23 at bottom of jacket.  Framed, non laminated cover.  Blank spine.

Jacket
Jacket is in decent shape.  Front cover is clean. Just some light scuffs.  Bottom edge wear, about the center of the bottom edge the beginning of a split, just for about an inch.  Corner wear can be seen, not bad considering its age.  Back cover has staining at left edge for about 2/3 of the length.  More staining at bottom left corner.  Center of back cover is very nice.  Strong cover. Original inner sleeve not included.
Jacket grade:  VG  (without the staining, it’s a VG+ cover).

Vinyl
Visual grade:  Side 1, track one has noticeable scuff.  Track 2 a lesser visible mark.  Side 2, last track has noticeable scratch, it’s feelable. Extends from center label inwards for about 1/2 inch.  Some light marks in other areas of this side can be seen.

Play grade:

Side 1
Track 1 –  Very nice sounding track.  Clear and clean of any background noise.  Very faint tick behind the xylophone part.  Not overpowering.  It goes away during this part. Just a beautiful sound here.  Piano solo kicks in and it’s just as strong.  Light tick behind it about a minute into the solo.  This, too, disappears.  Drum solo strong, sound no background noise.  Ends nicely.  A very strong track.

Track 2 – Beautiful start here.  As it picks up, some very light background noise, it goes away as the song goes on.  Heard one pop about a minute in.  Some light pops afterwards, nothing consistent. Xylophone solo with faint pops heard, again, not over powering.  As this solo goes on, it gets clearer.  A consistent tick comes back for about 15 seconds, goes away.  Piano at forefront here with bass behind it.  Gorgeous..clean and clear.  Two pops heard however..and then it’s clear again.  Mobley on sax here and some very faint noise behind it, it disappears then.  The bulk of this solo is just tremendous.  Xylophone kicks in again, sporadic, light clicks can be heard behind it, but the solo is strong here taking over.

Side 1 Grade:  EX

Side 2
Track 1 – Great start, gorgeous music here with no background noise.  One pop heard around 1:50.  That’s all. Xylophone part kicks in, just beautiful.  Again, no background noise here. About 4:30 another pop.  Piano solo with bass background.  Nice selection here, just very sporadic ticks, nothing consistent.   Towards the end of this piano section, some faint clusters of ticks.  Next selection is clean.  Sax section just superb.  Ends very strong.

Track 2 – Beautiful start here.  Each instrument is heard without interference.  Goes into piano part, very clear, very clean.  No distractions..just the instrument and music.  Wonderful. Then some quick clusters of ticks and a pop…back to a clean track. Piano with backing bass into sax solo nice.  One pop at that transition.  Bass solo with quiet splash of drums behind is is very clean.  Wow.  Explodes into xylophone solo, again, music is right up front with no distracting noise behind it.  As solo goes on, some ticks come in.  Consistent tick for about 15 seconds.  A slight jump here then that consistent tick. It goes away once the sax comes in.  Ends nicely.

Track 3 – Nice start to the song.  It’s quiet here and can hear some ticks.  One pop about a minute in.  Quieter section here, but can hear some background noise/ticks.  Piano solo starts and it goes away.  As it plays you can hear some ticks.  Xylophone kicks in, a pop here.  Then louder pops for about 30 seconds, a jump.  More pops, consistent pops here.  Song ends with noticeable, consistent pops.  The scratch here at the end wreaks havoc on the sound.

Side 2 Grade:  VG to VG+

Overall grade  VG  Side 2 brought this down to a VG.  We are being conservative here.
